SnapScribe Privacy Policy

SnapScribe is a screenshot journal app. This policy explains what data the app accesses on your device and, importantly, what it does not do with it.

The short version

Everything SnapScribe stores — your screenshots, notes, tags, and any text found in screenshots — stays on your device. SnapScribe has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no backend server. Nothing you create in the app is ever transmitted anywhere by SnapScribe.

Permissions the app requests, and why

• Photos/screenshots access (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) — to find your screenshots and let you attach notes and tags to them, and to display them in the app's gallery.
• Notifications — to alert you when a new screenshot is detected, and to show reminders you set yourself.
• Run in the background / start on boot — so the app can keep watching for new screenshots without you needing to keep it open, and so that background watching resumes automatically after your device restarts.
• Usage access (optional, off by default) — if you turn this on in Settings, the app checks which app was in the foreground when a screenshot was taken, purely to auto-tag the screenshot with its source app. This permission is never requested automatically; you must explicitly grant it via system settings, and you can revoke it at any time.

On-device text recognition (OCR)

SnapScribe can optionally scan the text inside your screenshots so you can search for it later. This recognition happens on your device using Google's ML Kit. The image content and any recognized text are never uploaded anywhere by SnapScribe. The only network activity involved is your device fetching the recognition model itself from Google Play services the first time the feature is used — the same as any other on-device ML Kit feature — not your photos or their content.

Data storage and backup

Your notes, tags, and OCR text are stored in a local database on your device. If you have Android's standard device backup enabled, this data may be included in your own Google account's backup, the same as any other app's data — SnapScribe does not operate or have access to that backup independently.

Third parties

SnapScribe does not share, sell, or transmit your data to any third party. The app includes no advertising SDKs and no analytics/tracking SDKs.

Children's privacy

SnapScribe is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age — the app simply doesn't collect or transmit data at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a revised "last updated" date.
